Food Forward is excited to announce we are currently seeking elementary schools and educators to be a part of our Fall 2017 kNOw Waste Program.
kNOw Waste is an interdisciplinary, standards-aligned 5th grade curriculum that introduces students to the connections between reducing food waste, improving environmental outcomes, hunger as a social concern, and the importance of utilizing surplus to meet the needs of the food insecure. This program is designed in collaboration with an educator and curriculum developer with over 20 years experience in educational leadership and is offered to participating schools 100% free of charge.

We are looking for dedicated volunteers to help us with invasive species removal. MRT has removed red swamp crayfish and other invasive aquatics species from the Malibu Creek Watershed for the last 10 years.When you volunteer with us you will get the chance to work with our and get behind-the-scenes experience conducting in-stream habitat restoration. You will learn how to identify native species of fish and amphibians and how to tell them apart from harmful introduced species. You will also gain experience using industry standard field equipment for invasive species removal, working in unique riparian habitat, and collecting accurate and usable data. Help us heal your creeks!
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) highlights invasive species as the second most common threat associated with the complete extinction of a species. Don’t miss the opportunity to work in partnership with Mountains Restoration Trust and California State Parks on our joint effort to remove invasive species in the Santa Monica Mountains and protect our natives!
We are asking for your help removing invasive species every Saturday in October, November, and December (with the exception of the last weekend in December). Get a chance to see how a nongovernmental organization helps to restore your local watershed, how to apply your degree after graduation, and network with industry professionals.
